Auburn at a Glance

The Auburn School grows the social and academic potential of bright students with social and communication challenges.

The Auburn School is an independent day-school with a specialized program which offers a stimulating educational program for intellectually engaged students with challenges in the areas of communication, socialization, language, and organization. Auburn’s program simultaneously supports the development of academic skills, social competency and pragmatic language in an engaging educational environment.

Campuses

The Auburn School was founded in 2009 with the opening of the Fairfax, Virginia Campus. After a successful inaugural year, the Silver Spring, Maryland Campus opened in 2010.

Students

Our Silver Spring, Maryland campus currently serves students from Kindergarten through 8th grade. Our Fairfax, VA campus serves students from Kindergarten through 12th grade.

Faculty & Staff

Average class size ratios are no more than eight students to one teacher. Auburn’s staff and advisors include experienced and award-winning educators and professionals. All of our staff is highly trained in specific instructional and developmental strategies that have been proven to be successful and effective for Auburn’s student population.

Financial Aid

Many social thinking and learning, behavior and OT services are included in the tuition. The Auburn School has a strong desire to serve all students and families who can benefit from our program. Generous financial aid and tuition assistance is available to families that qualify based on demonstrated need. Approximately 20-25% of students receive tuition assistance, with average grant awards of about $7,500-$10,000.

For most of our families, all of Auburn’s tuition, fees and related costs, such as transportation, are fully tax-deductible as a medical expense. This reduces the effective cost to families by thousands of dollars each year. Individual circumstances will vary, so please consult your individual tax advisor regarding this deduction.

The Auburn School is accredited through AdvancED/ SACS CASI.
