Marina Major, President

Marina joined the founding team of Auburn after 10 years with British Schools of America (BSA), a leading provider of British style international education based here in Washington DC. She served as both its CFO and COO and was responsible for starting up four schools in the U.S. and assisting in the development of its international school. She also had oversight and responsibility for all BSA operations and served on the school’s board of directors. Previously, she was Director of Administration and International Operations for Micro Analytics Inc., a leading logistics software developer and was responsible for company-wide operations at BT Office Products, where she worked directly for the executive board on corporate development initiatives. Marina received a B.B.A. from the College of William and Mary, majoring in marketing with a minor in Spanish, holds a certificate in accounting from the University of Virginia, and is currently a CPA in the State of Virginia.

Dr. Paula Cage, Head of School, Baltimore Campus

The Auburn School is excited to welcome Dr. Paula Cage to its Baltimore team. Paula joins The Auburn School with 14 years of experience working in education in a variety of roles. Most recently, she spent 7 years with DC Public Schools, first their Special Education Coordinator and then as their Monitoring and School Support Specialist. Preceding her leadership positions with DCPS, Paula taught at such institutions as High Road Academy, Maryland International Day School, and The Goddard School. Since 2010, she has also served as an adjunct professor at the Community College of Baltimore County, where she has lectured in the field of child development. Paula holds a B.S. in Sociology from Bowie State University, a M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction from University of Phoenix, and an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership and Management from Capella University, where she wrote her dissertation, Designing an Intervention to Increase Reading Levels of Students with Special Needs

Andy comes to Auburn with over 20 years of experience as a talented special education leader in both private and public school systems. He started teaching as a Peace Corp volunteer in Guatemala, and continued his career as a teacher, principal and central office administrator within the DC metro area. During his tenure in education he also served as a content expert in special education for the U.S. Department of Education Race to the Top State Grant competition. He is currently working on his doctoral studies at Johns Hopkins University where he also served as adjunct faculty. He is licensed through the Maryland State Department of Education with endorsements as a Superintendent, Principal, Pupil Personnel Worker, Special Education Teacher and Political Science Teacher. Andy received his undergraduate degree from The Pennsylvania State University and holds two masters degrees, one in Student Counseling from The American University, and a second in School Administration and Supervision from McDaniel College.

Prior to joining The Auburn School, Josh spent 10 years as a licensed clinical social worker and then as Program Director of Neurodevelopmental Center for Early Intervention at Family Compass in Reston VA, where he provided therapy and early intervention to young children with pervasive developmental and autism spectrum challenges and their families. Josh was also a part of the Family Compass Preschool Alliance, working directly with education professionals on teacher training as well as providing in depth teacher professional development and helping teachers with strategies for the classroom. Before his time at Family Compass he worked for AOL from 1996 to 2005, where he held leadership and administrative roles and was responsible for end-to-end support services. In 2012, he joined the faculty of the National Catholic School of Social Service as a Field Instructor for the Foundation Year Field Education & Integrative Seminar.
Josh holds a masters of social work from the National Catholic School of Social Service at the Catholic University of America, concentrating his studies on infant and early childhood development. Mr. Metz is also a 2008 graduate of the Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental Disorders (LEND) Fellowship program located at Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, D.C. Prior to earning his MSW degree, he obtained a B.A. from Bowdoin College in European History with a concentration in Asian Religions.

Susan Steis, Business Manager

Susan is a talented finance and accounting professional who joined Auburn after eight years with British Schools of America (BSA). While at BSA, she was responsible for the accounting, finance and reporting of five schools developing central systems and processes to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting. She worked with the schools' leadership to maintain appropriate budgets and oversaw all financial auditing and training. She was part of the team that developed two new schools in Washington D.C. and Chicago. Susan holds a B.S. Entrepreneurship and Emerging Enterprises with a minor in Economics from Syracuse University.

Erik is a highly respected education leader. In 2006, he established The Siena School in Silver Spring, MD. The Siena School has quickly become one of Washington, D.C.’s leading private schools. The school and its staff have earned several honors, along with accolades from area educators, community leaders and the media, including The Washington Post, Washington Diplomat and WUSA–Channel 9. Previously, Erik was on the founding team and management committee of Victory Schools, a national leader in the charter school and public education reform movements. In 2003, he was awarded a Broad Fellowship in the Broad Foundation Superintendents Academy, one of the nation’s most prestigious educational leadership training programs. He began his career in finance with Goldman Sachs and J.P. Morgan, before joining New Mountain Capital, a premier private equity investment firm. He has served on governing boards of the Atlantic Seaboard Dyslexia Education Center, the Mental Health Association of Montgomery County, and Calvert Education Services, one of the nation's oldest homeschooling organizations. Erik holds an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School and a B.S. in systems engineering with high honors from the University of Virginia.
