• Another Successful Bike to the Beach

Posted by Nicole Pouy at 8/3/2017 10:20:00 AM

A big thank-you to all of the Auburn staff, family, and friends who participated in last week's Bike to the Beach, whether they made a donation or joined our team and took to the pavement! We'd also like to thank Silver Spring campus's Jannette Puisseaux for leading the charge.

We have been partners with Bike to the Beach for a few years now, and our cycling team continues to grow with each passing year. This year we had a team of 11 riders and raised $4,640. We will continue to foster our partnership with Bike to the Beach and recruit riders for next year's Bike to the Beach ride on August 3rd.

  • Appointment of Joshua Metz to the Position of Head of School of the Auburn School, Fairfax Campus

Posted by Nicole Pouy at 5/4/2017

We are pleased to announce that we have appointed Joshua Metz to the position of head of school of the Auburn School Fairfax Campus starting in June. We had a large candidate pool and were able to choose from the best. The leadership team, staff and parents were thrilled to have someone with Josh’s expertise considered. His commitment to students and families is clear and will be an asset to the Auburn community.

Josh comes to us as both a parent of an Auburn student and as a talented Licensed Social Worker serving students and families providing therapy and early intervention to young children with pervasive developmental and autism spectrum challenges. Josh has a master’s of social work from Catholic University of America, concentrating on infant and early childhood development. He is a graduate of the Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental Disorders Fellowship program and has served as a Field Instructor for the Foundation Year Field Education and Integrative Seminar. He will be supported in the classroom by our talented leadership team and teaching staff.

Many of our community were part of the recruitment process and we appreciate their time and thoughts as we searched for the right person to lead our school. Since Auburn’s founding in 2009, we have seen extraordinary growth in our students, our staff and our community. As educators, we are always evaluating all that we do and how we do it since our mission to grow the social and academic potential of bright students with social and communication challenges is so very profound to us all. We recognize the wonderful resources we have on staff and know that we are extremely fortunate. We are pleased that Josh will be joining our team as we further enhance our programs.

Josh will be joining us officially June 5th, and until then, will be splitting his time between Family Compass and Auburn. This is great for us as it will provide the team an opportunity to prepare for the new school year. And more importantly, more time to spend with Heather as she and her family will be moving to Chicago prior to the end of the school year. Officially her last day at Auburn will be June 1. We will keep you posted on the transition and plans moving forward. We want to thank Heather for her dedication and love to our students, our families and our community.

Again, thank you for your support, and see you in the coming days.

    Kind regards,

    Marina Major, CEO/President

  • School Garden Time at Auburn's Silver Spring Campus!

Posted by Nicole Pouy at 4/7/2017 12:30:00 PM

April has arrived, and with it, the time to revive Auburn, Silver Spring campus's school garden!

Auburn's garden is a student-centered project designed to promote community pride, respect for the earth, healthy eating, and cooperative teamwork. Our students are proud of the work they accomplish in the garden and enjoy witnessing the fruition of their efforts. Each class is responsible for a certain kind of plant in the garden, and students are able to apply what they've learned in the classroom about the science of plants and art of plant care.

After break, we will be reaching out to classroom parents and sending out more information- so stay tuned!
